Audio: Deriving Mono from Stereo?

Dylan August on July 29, , Well OK, I like finding bargains as much as the next guy but you got to wonder how durable a speaker can be at this price level, a subwoofer in particular carries a heavy accoustic burden so you generally have to pay real money to get something that will just survive typical use. There was no manual with the sub when it came and several places to plug cords in on the back, so I wasn’t exactly sure how to connect it. That’s never a good sign.. With the sub filter turned on on the mixer, everything was muffled and nothing was coming out of the sub. I turned the sub filter off, and I could not really tell that the sub was on. I feel like an 18 inch sub should not be cranked to full volume just to hear it.

Can I hook up two subs to a mono channel amp?

These amps employ some of the same circuitry developed for Alpine’s top-of-the-line PDX digital amps, so they’ll bring exceptional sound to almost any vehicle.

Apr 13,  · I’m pretty sure my subs were still running at 2 ohms but they were hooked up the wrong way. This is the right way to hook 2 4 ohm subwoofers up @ 2 ohms.

Next Audiophiles know that a stereo is not complete until you’ve added a subwoofer to your system. The subwoofer is a speaker specifically designed to give precise sound to low frequency audio, such as the bass [source: Whether in your car or your home theatre, a subwoofer is a must for a true and complete audio experience. Read the steps listed below and learn about how to connect a subwoofer to an amplifier.

Turn the amplifier and the subwoofer so the backs are facing you. You will be able to clearly and accurately see the labels on top of the outputs and plugs. This is the terminal used to connect the subwoofer to the amplifier. Connect the cable that was included with the subwoofer to the amplifier’s terminal. Alternatively, you can connect an RCA cable that can be purchased at any electronics store [source: Connect the other end of the cable to the terminal on the back of the subwoofer marked Line In [source: Insert an audio disc that has deep bass sounds and press play.

Human ears are the best devices for gauging whether your subwoofer is set up properly. Set the phase control on the amplifier to zero and the output to minimum. Throughout the song, adjust the levels until you’re satisfied with the amount of bass coming out of your subwoofer [source:

Installing Multiple Amplifiers There seems to be some confusion when it comes to installing more than one amplifier. Should you use one power wire or multiple wires? Do you ground everything to the same point?

Steve, Your mono, 1-channel amp has 2 sets of speaker output terminals, wired together inside the amp, for convenience, and if you hook a speaker to each terminal it would result in the two speakers being wired in parallel, cutting the total impedance in half.

Or do i need that tacotunes equalizer thing? In my head its like I also thought of I never use my Aux cable. I wouldnt need the car to play if the bed is playing too.. Sounds a bit complicated and I’m not sure it’s worth it. But yes, you have it right for the most part. You use the harness on the back of the head unit and run the leads to the amp you want to supply power to your bed speakers. The amp also needs speaker inputs AND full-range speaker outputs.

The speaker inputs on the amp is where you would plug the wires from the harness into. The speaker outputs would be where your truck bed speakers would plug into. Also, to make things easier, make sure the amp you get also has an “auto-on” feature. This feature eliminates the need for a remote wire that connects to the back of an aftermarket deck to turn the amp on when the headunit turns on taco-tunes sells a harness for this as well but if you can find an amp with auto-on, that would be the best way to go.

Podcasting , Technology Any system is only as good as the weakest link in the chain and audio systems are certainly no exception to the rule. Attaching speakers to your Hi-Fi system usually only requires a few cables. These potential problems are easy to spot with a few simple tests and luckily the corresponding remedies are equally simple. Left and Right Tests In the grand scale of things, getting your left and right speakers mixed up is not a major problem. Record producers and mix engineers spend weeks mixing and producing an album and as part of the process they will decide where in the mix to place certain instruments.

Then try the following two fairly self explanatory tests on your music system.

Jan 02,  · I know you can hook up two subs to a mono amp but what is the exact benefits of it. Been reading online but people say a lot of things! Why wire in series or parallel?

How to Wire 2 Subwoofers on a Mono Amplifier by Nichole Liandi If you’ve got a mono amplifier, you’ve got a great opportunity to really bring on the bass. Mono amplifiers are especially well-suited to wiring to two subwoofers. To wire two subwoofers to a mono amplifier, you need only know how to cut wire, use very simple tools and follow basic instructions.

Cut two lengths of speaker wire. The first should be long enough to reach from the amplifier to the first subwoofer, and the second long enough to reach from the first subwoofer to the second. Connect one end of the first length of wire to the speaker output terminals of the amplifier. These are usually set-screw connections — loosen the screw, slip the bare wire underneath and tighten down. Connect the positive lead of the speaker wire to the positive terminal, and the negative to the negative.

Connect the other end of this piece of speaker wire to the terminals of the subwoofer. Then connect the second piece of speaker wire to the same set of terminals.

Did this video help you? Just out of curiosity you wouldn’t have dynoed a earthquake dhc mark 1? He knew nothing about it, a customer failed to pay for storage and guess he sold it to me untested. I took the risk, but boy was it worth it. I have it pushing it a SSA Evil 15 and its killing my stock electrical. I believe it has been modded as it has a quite loud fan and it’s my daily driver at 1ohm.

Sure i have 2 watt rockfords connected to a watt kenwood mono amp. This statement made by another is true. You can hook up 20 subs to a mono amp; BUT you have to configure the speakers by impedance/ohms. if you hook two 2 ohm speakers to a 4 ohm steady amp in parallel you will soon buy a new amp. if you hook 10 speakers in series you will not even get it warm.

Tube Stuff Suppliers Appendix B. Tube amps have always been the amplifier of choice for the working musician. Musical myth has ascribed almost magical tone to them. While the results may not be entirely magic, tubes do have a sound that is different from solid state amplifiers, and one that happens to make amplified music sound better to the human ears and brain. There are lots of technical and psuedo-technical explanations for why this should be true, but there is enough solid evidence that it is a real effect to trust it.

The real reason to use tube amps is simply that they sound better. For that advantage, we put up with the poor supply of parts, high prices, fragility and excess heat that they produce. Are Tube Amps louder than solid state amps of the same power? Some excellent scientific work on tube preamplifiers and their distortion products has turned up the mechanism for this. When tubes are driven outside their linear region, for the first 12db or so of overdrive the harmonics that they produce trick the human ear into thinking that the sounds are getting louder, when in fact the sound is getting progressively more distorted.

It is this acoustic trick that can make tube amps sound up to 12db louder than they actually are compared to a perfect, undistorted amplifier. A solid state amplifier of the same power as a tube amp may distort at the same signal level as the tube amp, but the distortions are not subtle, and we hear them as distortion, not as a slightly louder sound.

While I didn’t feel that the room acoustics and setup were good enough at CAS to permit an honest appraisal, the looks and features of the S10 now discontinued thrust Aurender into the spotlight. So when John Atkinson, who had very favorably reviewed Aurender’s N10 server in April , asked if I would evaluate Aurender’s new A10, the opportunity to serve so many audiophiles with a single review elicited from me an unequivocal “Yes!

Its single full-size case contains a network music player-server similar to the company’s entry-level N H caching music server, with the addition of what Aurender calls a “high-performance,” MQA-certified DAC. Those able to pay more will appreciate the superior power supplies, clocking systems, and noise isolation of Aurender’s higher-end models, as well as their greater storage capacity, higher numbers of inputs, and other features.

Nov 21,  · Best Answer: First off, if its a mono amp, then it is not bridgeable. And based off of the first two ratings you list, I’m going to guess you have the Alpine MRP-M, but I don’t know where you came up with the bridged power ([email protected]) : Resolved.

February 3, I have the AMP and am currently using it to power my 2 front speakers in my 7. Would the AMP be able to power the subwoofer in addition to my 2 front speakers? Also, which subwoofer do you recommend of the two noted? The location would be lower front left corner of room approx. Thank you for your help! Good question, but I do not believe the AMP will help you out. Plus placement of your sub woofer can be critical.

The advantage of the bulky sub woofer is you have the ability of determining where the best location for most bass is for your room being it is a self powered dedicated enclosure. Of course since you already have it you can place the bulky sub in front of the location you are planning to install the sub in the wall and see how it sounds compared to its original location. The problem with the low frequencies is the size of the sign way that can create dead zones in the room.

Whether it’s an installation that might not have gone as planned, or a random problem that comes out of nowhere. Here is a list of your common car stereo problems, symptoms and solutions to help get your stereo up and running! Many Jeeps and Chevrolet systems have a data signal wire that carries a very low voltage signal that tells the OEM Head Unit when to turn on, however; it is not compatible with aftermarket units.

Jan 08,  · How to hook up 2 amplifiers or more (read description) but in case that’s not common since to you: Split it in 2 and put one end to one amp and the other end to the other amp, or u can also.

I have 2 10″ Kicker Comp Subs That amplifier is only rated at watts at 4 ohms, or watts at 2 ohms. Not a very strong amp to run 2 kicker comps. My guess is you have the subs wired wrong for your application. There are 2 types of subs, one is a dual 4 ohm, and one is a dual 2 ohm. Most people bridge these coils together and that cuts your ohms in half. Lets say you have the 10cvr subs. Thats the dual 4 ohm sub.
